Low-Latitude Aurora? Timelapse of the Starry Sky in Hokkaido (2024/9/13-14)

Hokkaido, north – north-east sky.(2024/9/13-14)

This year, several low-latitude auroras have been spotted in Hokkaido. On September 13-14, there was a chance to see another aurora, so I headed to Bōgakudai on Mount Tokachi, a high-altitude location, to capture the northern sky. Around the 19-30 second mark in the video, you can see a faint red-purple glow near the horizon. Could this be a low-latitude aurora?

The starry sky was also beautiful. I only brought 1 camera with me that day, so I couldn’t take many photos except in the direction of the Northern Lights, so I enjoyed seeing the Milky Way overhead with my eyes. The composition of Mount Tokachi and Orion is also good.

On the way back, the sunrise over the mountains from Furano was spectacular and I thought about stopping here too to take a time-lapse, but I had zero energy to shoot the sunrise.
