Biei, Hokkaido(2024/9)
This is a timelapse video of the starry sky I captured during my trip to Biei. I found a lovely hill with a solitary cabin and decided to shoot the silhouette of the cabin against the stars. Since I started filming right after sunset, the sky is still quite bright. The video includes three timelapse variations: one standard timelapse and two star trails. The final short timelapse was taken at Bōgakudai on Mount Tokachi, at a slightly higher elevation, with two patterns captured in a short amount of time.
The starry sky in Biei is breathtaking. With few streetlights and little traffic at night, it’s an ideal location for stargazing. There were no power poles or lines around, making it perfect for photography.
Note:
Recently, there have been many issues in Biei with tourists trespassing on private farmland and property owned by local farmers. Despite narrow roads, large buses enter, and at famous tree locations, there are problems with illegal parking and slow driving, causing great inconvenience to the local farmers. Please refrain from such behavior.
The same goes for photographers. Even if no cars are coming, standing in the middle of the road to take photos sets a bad example. Tourists who see these photos on social media may try to imitate them. As photographers, we must consider these broader impacts when capturing our shots.
