Daisetsuzan, Mount Keigetsu (September 2024)
On the second morning of my 3-day, 2-night camping trip in Daisetsuzan, while waiting for the sun to rise on Mount Keigetsu, a sun pillar appeared. The sun’s rays and the alpenglow on the mountain peaks when the sun comes up are beautiful, but the moment I feel the sky looks its best is right before sunrise. The orange hues are especially deep at that time.
There was a man working in the hut at Kurodake Sekishitsu, and he said that it was the best sunrise he had seen in the last half month. I thought I was lucky to have climbed on such a wonderful day.
