Hokkaido Brown Bear on Hakuundake, Daisetsuzan(白雲岳 ヒグマ 2024/6/4)

Near Hakuundake Campsite in Daisetsuzan(2024/6)

A Hokkaido brown bear appeared about 200 meters from the Hakuundake campsite. While preparing an early dinner at the tent site, I heard several rocks rolling down the slope. Upon closer inspection, I saw the bear descending the slope, foraging on plants.

Note: Hokkaido brown bears are known to appear near the Hakuundake Emergency Shelter every year. Please follow the instructions of the shelter staff. In recent years, some individuals have gotten too close to the bears or even followed them to take photos. This is dangerous for both humans and the bears. Always keep a safe distance and carry bear spray.
